Terminus

Recently I've been giving Southwest Ohio a really hard time when it comes to weather, but Georgia sure was ready to take some of that burden. We get down to Georgia and anxiously go to sleep, worried that our games might get canceled. Thunderstorms were in the forecast and it didn't look good.

I'm always the first one up and usually help myself to the continental breakfast nice and early. I get down to breakfast and there's a TV with the news on it. A tornado touched down in Atlanta and ripped holes in the Georgia Dome. Great. A tornado rips through downtown Atlanta the one weekend out of the year we're down there. (That's a much more selfish complaint; clearly the victims of the storm have a much bigger reason to be upset).

Surprisingly the weather outside looks "okay." We got no word that the tournament was off so we went to the fields. We get there and it's an ominous overcast with a "too good to be true" feel. There wasn't any wind and it was comfortable temperature. So we warmup and greet our first opponent, Cornell. There's not much to report on this game. We turned it over with reckless disregard for an efficient offense. The combination of Cornell being a talented team and us not showing up did not bode well. It was a bad start to Terminus and we got spanked. 15-5 was the final.

The next game we started to play some ultimate. We took on Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It was back and forth all game. Trading, trading, break here and there. Finally it's 10-10 and we have the disc on the goal line. Future throws a break to my up-line cut. It looked out of reach but I layed out and snagged the disc for the score. We go nuts because we broke them to go up one. However, a few of their guys claimed that I was out and the argument was resolved by sending it back. We started to work the disc and turned it over, missing a huge opportunity. We got a turnover and held the disc about 50 yards away. As my man is about to start stalling me we see a flash of light. To our dismay, lightning reared its ugly head and we made our way to the tent.

The storm lasted for a good 2 or 3 hours and we didn't return to the fields until much later that afternoon. In the meantime we went to a parking lot to sleep and start Whirly Ball chants. And I shouldn't forget to mention when we were sitting in cars it started to hail. At least a 1/2 inch of hail. Gorgeous weather I tell you.

We come back and finally get our games going. The polo fields are under water. And I don't mean soaked, I mean literally you were in a half inch to inch standing water on almost the entire field. It was absurd. We marked the spot of the disc and resumed at that spot. In ridiculous conditions we managed to run a patient and mistake free offense. We punched it in for the score. Since the rounds were getting all messed up, tied games were to play one more point and then that was the final. We win. An 11-10 victory over UW-M.

We found out we had a bye. A bye after 3 hours of waiting. Sweet. (This is not fault of the TD, it was just a shitty situation). So we sit on some bleachers and watch this girl from Michigan (#23) just dominate everyone. She was throwing flick hucks, off hand high releases, and just ripping people apart. In the midst of oogling over this girl and yelling at Central Florida, the heavens open up. I'm not sure I've ever seen it rain so hard. We ran under the tent and a party broke out. Music started blasting and a dance party erupted. A bunch of dudes from Oklahoma just started going nuts. (Naturally upon seeing a group full of guys dancing we all moved away from Max for fear of getting poke with his giant erection.)

We wait another hour or so and things start to sort of clear up. The field is under even more water and we're told we can play. Really? Sweet. We get out to our fields and start warming up to take on Virginia. We flip for possession and then a captains meeting is called. I run over to find out that the owners of the polo fields have canceled the tournament for the rest of the weekend. That was one of those pits in your stomach feelings. We went all the way to Georgia to get a tournament canceled. Heartbreaking.

I reported the news to the team and they were equally disappointed.

The attention then turned to Whirly Ball. If you don't know what it is Youtube that and you'll see. It's awesome. A few proud members of Miami went to represent us at the party. It was fantastic. Clops turned 21 and Snaps pressured him into one too many shots; he ran outside to puke out his manhood.

I can't forget the dance party around and on my car during Semi-Charmed life with those random people in the parking lot. I think Max got a hummer behind my car during it. Joefish can you confirm or deny that?

Next stop: Wooster Winter Warm Up.

we don't care, we want mardis gras 08
(and the whirlyball chants didn't start in earnest until the second weather delay, when max got over his mono and got "excited.")

Mardi Gras 08 is completed. Its red carpet debut will be later this week. No word on whether Pauly Shore will actually show up. He's rumored to be considering attending the screening.

Mastro.

P.S. Max got mono, again, shortly after Whirly Ball.
